The Killer Game is a social game that you play together with a group of friends. The app is not the game, it just facilitates the game play, which is done in ‘real life’.

Instructions to start a game

  1. One of the players, the Game Master, creates the game.
  2. The other players join the game using the game code provided by the Game Master.
  3. The Game Master starts the game when all players have joined.

The rules

When the game starts everybody gets a target to ‘kill’. Thats is, everybody is a hunter and also somebody´s prey.

To ‘kill’ your target, just put your hand on his/her shoulder and say the words ‘you are dead’. The trick here is that no one is allowed to see you do the ‘kill’. If that is the case, the ‘kill’ is invalid and you have revealed yourself to your target.

Needless to say, that will make your task a bit harder to accomplish. If the kill succeeds, you will take over the target of your ‘victim’.

Doing this is a two step process. First, show your Killer Game to your target to prove you ‘killed’ the right target. Then your target acknowledge by pressing the ‘I am dead’ button on his/her mobile. Your Killer Game will now update to show your new target.

The game continues until there is only one player left. The ‘victims’ remain in the game and can follow the progress of the game play. To keep everyone on the edge, don’t reveal who is living and who is dead.

The making of The Killer Game

The Killer Game is developed by IT Bolaget Per & Per AB. The game is the result of one of our conferences. We continuously work to improve our competence in order to stay at the leading edge in systems development.
Mobile applications, webb-development and cloud deployed solutions are three of our focus areas. All three have been put to good use during the development of The Killer Game.

The user interface is provided in the form of three Apps and one mobile web-app. The apps are developed for three of the leading mobile platforms: iOs (iPhone and iPad), Android and Windows Phone 7. Each of the apps has been designed to blend into the unique user experience and comply with the user interface guidelines of its platform. iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone 7. At the same time they share the same graphical theme across the platforms.
In order to achieve this, each of the apps has been developed using the native SDK and programming language of its platform. (Objective C, Java and C# respectively.)

The mobile web-app has been developed to share a common look and feel with the native apps. Mostly to highlight the trade-offs in user experience and platform integration between web-apps and native apps.

Behind the scenes, there is the Killer Game service, that coordinates the gameplay between the players of the game. It uses one common web-service interface towards the different apps. It is hosted in the cloud using Google AppEngine.

If you have any suggestions or other feed-back on the game, you are welcome to send them to killergame@2xper.se.

Good Luck and stay alive!
